Amman, Jordan, December 23, 2024: The Secretary General of the Jordan Olympic Committee, Rana Alsaeed, has paid tribute to retiring taekwondo trailblazer Julyana Al Sadeq.
“A great career and remarkable achievements have been achieved by the Jordanian taekwondo champion Julyana Al Sadeq during her career, making her one of the most prominent players in the history of Jordanian sports,” Alsaeed said in a Facebook post.
“Despite retiring as a player, I'm confident that Julyana will continue her taekwondo career, contributing to train and produce champions and champions who continue to excel in the sport of Jordanian taekwondo. Thank you, Julyana for all you have done for Jordanian sport.”
Al Sadeq, 30, made history by becoming the first Jordanian and Arab woman to top the World Taekwondo rankings following a series of strong performances in 2022.
She competed in two consecutive Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 – and was elected to the OCA Athletes Committee during the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Julyana also won gold at women’s welterweight (-67kg) at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang.
