Japan’s Imoto re-elected to surfing’s executive committee

Tokyo, Japan, December 22, 2024: Kimifumi Imoto of Japan has been re-elected as an Executive Committee member of the International Surfing Association.

The Japanese official was re-elected as a regular Ex-Co member at the recent ISA annual general meeting at Cardiff, California, United States. Imoto was the surfing sport manager at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

ISA President Fernando Aguerre presided over the meeting during which Tokyo Olympian Sally Fitzgibbons (Australia) and Pan American Surfing Association President Karin Sierralta (Peru) were elected Vice Presidents.

 

“I wish to congratulate our newly elected ISA Vice Presidents, Sally Fitzgibbons and Karin Sierralta, and re-elected Executive Committee member, Kimifumi Imoto. Their global sports expertise and leadership are a valuable resource for the ISA, and I am eager to keep collaborating to advance and grow surfing on a global scale,” said ISA President Aguerre.

 

In other news, British Virgin Islands joined the ISA as the 116th member surfing federation

A series of amendments to the ISA Constitution were also passed. This included adding human rights and diversity as governance objectives the ISA will prioritize and promote. In addition, going forward, full Members of the ISA shall be from countries or territories with representation of a National Olympic Committee (NOC) in accordance with those NOCs recognized by the IOC.
