Bangkok, Thailand, December 6, 2024: Four Asian National Olympic Committees took centre stage in the breakout session of the OCA’s Prevention of the Manipulation of Competition (PMC) Workshop at the Intercontinental Hotel in Bangkok on Friday.
Representatives from Sri Lanka, Jordan, Singapore and China NOCs presented a list of best practices to their fellow NOCs under the stakeholder group discussions.
Topics included educational activities, workshops for athletes, forums for athletes and university students, social media content and the appointment of “Believe in Sport” Ambassadors.
Delegates heard that Sri Lanka NOC had established an integrity hotline, while Jordan NOC planned to have a PMC ambassador in each national sports federation to coordinate with the Jordan NOC.
Singapore highlighted the importance of working with their own Athletes’ Commission in tackling PMC, as well as establishing rules for athletes and coaches, while China used its National Games to strengthen PMC and integrity in sport as the two events covered 15,000 athletes from all provinces in the country, with 12,000 in the summer games and 3,000 in the winter games.
Earlier in the session, the OCA’s Athletes’ Department Manager, Jamyang Namgyal, said that 15 NOC Single Point of Contacts (SPOC) for PMC for the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China next February were present at the workshop in Bangkok.
A total of 34 NOCs will take part in the AWG and Jamyang urged all participating NOCs to register their SPOC with the OCA by December 20. The OCA will conduct a webinar for Single Point of Contact delegates and Chefs de Mission ahead of the AWG.
