Taipei, December 5, 2024: The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, along with its Athletes Commission, Sports and Environment Commission, Peace through Sport Commission, Gender Equality Commission, Education Commission and the Chinese Taipei Olympians Association, co-hosted a beach cleanup event on November 30.
The campaign was entitled “Joining Hands with Olympians and Asian Games Athletes to Protect Our Blue Ocean and Earth”.
The event aimed to raise awareness of environmental protection, equality, education and the Olympic spirit through practical actions, bringing together Olympians, Asian Games athletes, sports enthusiasts and the public.
The beach cleanup event took place at LinKou DingLiao Beach and involved several outstanding Olympic and Asian Games athletes. They included Athens Olympics taekwondo gold medalist Chu Mu-Yen; 1980 Winter Olympics skier and environmental entrepreneur Tim Lin; Paris Olympics shooting bronze medalist Lee Meng-Yuan; elite 400-meter hurdler Peng Ming-Yang; Hangzhou Asian Games canoe slalom bronze medalist Wu Shao-Hsuan; shooting athlete Wu Chia-Ying; Beijing Olympic weightlifting gold medalist Chen Wei-Ling; rising weightlifting star Fang Wan-Ling; and taekwondo gold medalist at the Doha Asian Games, Su Li-Wen.
These athletes joined hands with participants to collect and sort garbage on the beach, enjoying a healthy and meaningful day.
Under the leadership of these renowned athletes, public participation was enthusiastic. More than 150 people joined the event, including around 30 students from LinKou Junior High School who were accompanied by their teachers and parents.
“The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee is grateful to the athletes and public for taking practical action to participate in this meaningful beach cleanup event, protecting our blue ocean, cherishing our common home and creating a better future together,” the CTOC said.
