Bangkok, Thailand, December 3, 2024: The Olympic Council of Asia is taking the lead role in the promotion of two key issues affecting the global sports movement at a series of workshops in Bangkok this week.
The OCA Safeguarding Workshop will be held on Thursday, December 5 and the Prevention of Manipulation of Competition (PMC) Workshop will take place over two days on Friday and Saturday, December 6-7.
Both workshops will involve global experts from a number of organisations and will provide the OCA’s National Olympic Committees with the knowledge and networking to tackle both these formidable challenges when they return to their home NOC.
The OCA Safeguarding Workshop is being held in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee, while the two-day PMC Workshop will involve the OCA, IOC and Interpol. Basketball’s international federation FIBA will also have a part to play in the PMC workshop break-out sessions.
The Safeguarding Workshop will be attended by 49 participants from 43 NOCs, while the PMC Workshop will involve over 110 participants from 43 NOCs, sports federations, law enforcement, criminal justice representatives and government ministries, plus observers.
The two workshops are part of the OCA’s new programme known as “Guarding the Asian Games” – a four-pronged initiative encompassing safeguarding, PMC, anti-doping and the promotion of Olympic values. “Guarding the Asian Games” is aimed at raising awareness and providing expert guidance to athletes and their entourages on crucial topics in order to present a fair and clean Asian Games.
Under the direction of the OCA’s Director of Development Programme and NOC Relations, Mr. Wissam Trkmani, the Safeguarding Workshop will be conducted by the OCA’s Gender Equity and Safeguarding Manager, Mrs. Sabine Fakhoury, and the PMC Workshop by Mr. Jamyang Namgyal, Manager of the OCA Athletes Department.
The OCA held the four “Guarding the Asian Games” programmes during the OCA Development Programme for Coaches and Referees from Southeast Asia and East Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last week and will continue at the OCA-Jiu Jitsu Asian Union Development Programme for Coaches and Referees in Abu Dhabi from December 11-15.
