Kuwait City, Kuwait, November 28, 2024: The Olympic Council of Asia has announced that it will be hosting the OCA Gender Equity Seminar in Brunei Darussalam next April.
The two-day seminar will be conducted by the OCA and OCA Gender Equity Committee in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee and Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council. It will be held on April 14-15, 2025.
In a circular to the member National Olympic Committees of the OCA dated November 27, OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam says: “Following the success of the first Gender Equity Seminar in Bahrain on October 30-31, 2022, which marked a significant step forward for the women's sports movement in Asia, the OCA expands their efforts in advancing gender equality.
“The OCA continues to collaborate with NOCs to implement strategic initiatives that promote gender equality, empower girls and women at all sports level and remove barriers within the sports community.
“This effort builds on the progress of the first seminar and seeks to drive lasting, collective action for gender equality in sports across the region.”
The workshop will be conducted through a comprehensive methodology designed to maximize learning, engagement and practical outcomes. It will include a series of panel discussion expert-led presentations to provide foundational knowledge and strategic insights, followed by dynamic panel discussions featuring distinguished leaders and stakeholders in Gender Equity to share diverse perspectives and experiences.
The core of the seminar will feature three in-depth workshops, each structured to foster collaboration, facilitate honest dialogue and drive problem-solving among participants. These workshops are tailored to enable participants to identify specific challenges, explore innovative solutions and develop actionable strategies that can be applied within their respective NOCs to advance gender equity.
Each NOC can register two participants by January 30, 2025:
*the Chair of the NOC Gender Equity Committee or the Specific Point of Contact (SPOC) of the Gender Equity Committee, and
*the NOC Secretary General or NOC Board Member in charge of Gender Equity.
