Bangkok, Thailand, November 25, 2024: The Asian Esports Games, which will be held in Bangkok from November 25 to December 1, kicked off with a vibrant opening ceremony at the Indoor Stadium Hua Mak on Monday, November 25.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, SAT officials, Mr. Santi Lothong, President of the Thailand Esports Federation, and Asian Electronic Sports Federation Director General Mr. Sebastian Lau.
The highlights included Thai dance performances, a flag-bearing ceremony and the athletes' and technical officials’ oath.
The Asian Esports Games feature 29 countries and regions with 179 athletes, making it one of the biggest Asian esports events after the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022. Notably, 20 women’s teams are competing in the “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang” women’s event, with debut entries from Timor-Leste, China and Iran, among others.
The eFootball™ event has 23 participating countries and regions, representing over half of Asia, while nine teams compete in Arena of Valor.
In his welcome address, Mr. Santi Lothong said that, over the past 15 years, Thailand had transformed its esports ecosystem with support from the Sports Authority of Thailand, driving advancements in communication, the economy, tourism and health.
Mr. Lau praised Thailand’s efforts to host the Games with support from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Sports Authority of Thailand and the National Sports Development Fund. He emphasized the event’s role in promoting unity, gender equality and diversity while enhancing Thailand’s esports ecosystem ahead of the 33rd SEA Games in 2025.
As the Technical Delegate, AESF ensures integrity, fairness and sportsmanship throughout the event.
