Astana, Kazakhstan, November 25, 2024: The National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan held a workshop on sports journalism for students at the Eurasian National University in Astana on November 21-22.

The workshop was held under the umbrella of Olympic Solidarity and was attended by students who are specialising in sports journalism.

The two-day event was aimed at broadening the knowledge of future professionals in the field and gave them a unique opportunity to gain insights from leading experts in Kazakhstan sports journalism.

“NOC Kazakhstan places emphasis on nurturing young talent in sports journalism. There is a shortage of professionals in this field, particularly among Kazakh-speaking specialists,” pointed out Gulnaz Shukenova, Director of PR and Marketing at NOC Kazakhstan.

“These workshops are not just training sessions but real opportunities for aspiring journalists to gain knowledge, exchange experiences and learn from professionals in the industry,” Shukenova said.

She added: “We invited top experts to cover various aspects of sports journalism. It’s crucial to develop this field so that our athletes and Kazakhstan’s achievements are well-represented in the media.”

The workshop covered essential aspects of sports journalism, including emerging trends, on-site reporting at events, and live broadcasting. Participants also explored how advancements in digital technology are reshaping sports media coverage and discussed the challenges journalists face in an era saturated with sports content.

Special attention was given to the art of commentary and the workshop highlighted the importance of visual journalism in modern sports media.
