OCM congratulates President Norza Zakaria on badminton honour

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, November 24, 2024: The Olympic Council of Malaysia extends its warmest congratulations to its President, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, on his appointment as Honorary Life President of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

 

This distinguished honour was announced by the Acting President of BAM, Datuk Subramaniam Veruthasalam, during a press conference after the BAM Council meeting on Saturday, November 23 at the PETRONAS Akademi Badminton Malaysia, Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.

 

“On behalf of the entire OCM family, I would like to convey our most heartfelt congratulations to our President, Tan Sri Norza, on his appointment as the Honorary Life President of BAM,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Hamidin Mohd Amin, Deputy President of OCM.

 

“There is no doubt that Tan Sri Norza has made remarkable and transformative contributions to the development of badminton in Malaysia throughout his tenure, serving first as the Deputy President and later as the President of BAM, for over a decade.

 

“Under his leadership, he spearheaded the construction of the state-of-the-art Akademi Badminton Malaysia, rejuvenated the administration of BAM and enhanced its governance. He also significantly boosted its financial sustainability by securing multi-million-ringgit sponsorship deals.

 

“Even after stepping down as President of BAM, Tan Sri Norza continued his legacy by initiating the establishment of the Asian High Performance Badminton Centre, which has been recognized by the OCA, marking his first significant contribution following his election as Vice President of the OCA on September 8, 2024,” added Tan Sri Dato’ Hamidin Mohd Amin.
