Tashkent, Uzbekistan, November 24, 2024: The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has reviewed and backed proposals aimed at increasing youth engagement in sports.
The President has emphasised that sports plays a crucial role in the State’s youth policy and highlighted the importance of creating conditions for the comprehensive development of the younger generation.
As part of the Uzbekistan 2030 strategy and the State programme for the Year of Youth and Business Support, significant opportunities are being created for young people. Currently over 10 million people participate in mass sports, with events being held nationwide, including in regions, educational institutions and workplaces.
The State programme has emphasised the development and promotion of team sports with focus on clubs, universities and schools leagues.
Support will also be extended to national team sports while local authorities are tasked with creating regional sports clubs. A key part of the programme will be identifying and selecting young talent.
A proposal has been put forward to designate Thursdays as physical education and sports day.
