Indian women defeat China to win Asian Champions Trophy hockey title

New Delhi, India, November 21, 2024: Young forward Deepika emerged as the standout performer, scoring a brilliant reverse hit goal that helped India clinch the women’s Asian Champions Trophy with a 1-0 victory over Olympic silver medallists China in Rajgir, Bihar on Wednesday, November 20.

 

Deepika netted the decisive goal from a penalty corner in the 31st minute of an intense final. She concluded the tournament as the leading scorer with 11 goals.

 

India emerged unbeaten in the tournament with a 7-0 win record. They had beaten China 3-0 in the league stage.

 

This victory marked the Indian women’s third ACT championship, following their successes in 2016 and 2023.

 

They now stand alongside Korea as the most successful team in the tournament’s history with three titles.

 

Japan claimed the bronze medal with a commanding 4-1 victory over Malaysia.

 

For the first time the Asian Hockey Federation introduced prize money and India took home US$10,000. China won US$7,000 and Japan US$5,000.
