Thimphu, Bhutan, November 17, 2024: The President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, celebrated the successful completion of Project Dechenchholing with the teachers of the Dechenchholing Higher Secondary School on Friday, November 15.
Project Dechenchholing is a collaboration between the Bhutan Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Education and Skills Development to introduce sports, particularly athletics, into school programmes.
Prince Jigyel graced the occasion and interacted with teachers of one of the oldest schools operating in the Thimphu valley.
This pilot project is focused on studying the impact of children’s athletic programmes on students’ health and fitness. It began with a pre-intervention assessment of the students, followed by two months of engaging and structured athletic activities designed to enhance their physical and mental well-being.
The post-intervention assessment showed promising results, reinforcing the role of sports in nurturing healthier and more active children.
