Hong Kong, China, November 2, 2024: The government of the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong, China has pledged their full support for the staging of the ANOC General Assembly in 2026.

The Association of National Olympic Committees Executive Council approved the bid of Hong Kong last week and this was ratified at the XXVII General Assembly in Cascais, Portugal on Thursday, October 31.

In a statement released on Friday, November 1, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Secretary, Kevin Yeung, said the successful bid demonstrated international confidence in Hong Kong's capacity to host large-scale sports events.

"The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will fully support and guide the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China in hosting this important international meeting, coordinating close cooperation between relevant government departments and various sectors including tourism and business," he said.

Hong Kong will host the ANOC General Assembly for the first time in 2026, bringing delegates from the 206 NOCs around the world to the city along with International Federations, Olympic Games Organising Committees and other global sports organisations within the Olympic movement.

ANOC plans to organise a five-day gathering in Hong Kong, which will include seminars and an awards ceremony.

The President of the SF&OC, Timothy Fok, said Hong Kong would start working with government departments as well as the sports and business sectors to prepare for the assembly.

DAB (Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong) lawmaker Vincent Cheng also said the hosting of the assembly would strengthen the SAR's status as a hub for mega events in Asia.
