Phnom Penh, Cambodia, October 30, 2024: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, has been appointed Honorary Life President of the South East Asian Games Federation.
The honour was bestowed on the Senior Minister at the recent meeting of the SEA Games Federation Council in Bangkok in the presence of Olympic leaders from around the region.
NOC Cambodia stated: “Around the decision to appoint H.E. Dr. Thong Khon as the Honorary President for Life of the South East Asian Games Federation Council, this is honoring the personal sacrifice of His Excellency to the growth of the Olympic Movement in Cambodia.
“The number of sports has increased under the cooperation, support, encouragement and attention of the Royal Government of Cambodia so that Cambodia was able to host a brilliant SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games in 2023, along with many other major sports events.”
The 32nd SEA Games and 12th ASEAN Para Games, held under the auspices of former Prime Minister Hun Sen, were notable and historic for a number of reasons:
*Free accommodation, meals and transportation for all delegations
*Free entry for the public to the opening and closing ceremonies and all sports competitions.
*Free TV broadcasting rights for all national and international media.
*No visa fees for all sports delegates and international technical officials.
*Free admission to Angkor Wat for all sports delegates.
