IOA leaders attend CTOC’s 47th Olympic Academy Seminar

Taipei, October 27, 2024: The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee is holding the 47th Olympic Academy Seminar in Kenting, in the south of the island, from October 26-28, 2024.

This year’s seminar has brought together a total of 90 young participants from home and abroad, notably Singapore and Malaysia. The CTOC once again invited the President of the International Olympic Academy and a distinguished team of experts to share the latest trends in Olympic education and to foster the Olympic spirit.

Notable guests include Mr. Isidoros Kouvelos, President of the IOA; Mr. Asimakis Asimakopoulos, IOA Director; Prof. Dionysios Gangas, Advisor to the IOA President; and Ms. Alexandra Karaiskou, Senior Manager.

They engaged directly with participants during the opening ceremony and throughout the seminar, offering unique insights and interaction with leading Olympic education professionals.

The opening ceremony was presided by CTOC Secretary General Hsu Hsiao-Tzu, the Director of the International and Cross-Strait Sports Division of the Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education, Hsu Hsiu-Ling, and the Chair of the CTOC Education Committee, Chen Mei-Yen.

The event was further graced by the Vice Chair of the CTOC Gender Equity Committee, Liu Po-Chun, Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist in women's boxing Lin Yu-Ting, her coach Tseng Tzu-Chiang and other distinguished guests.

Since 1978, the CTOC has championed Olympic education, becoming the fourth NOC to establish an Olympic Academy.

In 2019 the CTOC was awarded the prestigious Athena Award by the IOA, making it the fifth Olympic Academy in the world to receive this honour.

Last year, the CTOC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the IOA in Greece, further enhancing bilateral collaboration in Olympic education.

CTOC Secretary-General Hsu Hsiao-Tzu emphasized that such international partnerships were key to engaging more youth in Olympic education and expanding impact in this field.

The seminar’s theme, "Athletes in Modern Society: Inspiring and Promoting Unity," aligns with the IOC’s Agenda 2020+5 reforms.
