CTOC promotes safe sports environment during Athlete Forum

Taipei, October 27, 2024: The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee’s Athlete Forum brought together elite athletes, both active and retired, to share their experiences and insights and learn topics advocated by the IOC.

 

The theme of this year’s forum was “Building a Safe and Respectful Sports Environment for Athletes” and focused on athlete rights protection, mental health and the use of AI technology to prevent harassment.

 

Through insightful presentations by experts and scholars, participants reaffirmed the importance of creating a safe and respectful sports environment where athletes can pursue their dreams without undue pressure.

 

Over 80 attendees, including active and retired athletes from junior college, university and training centers, gathered to discuss issues such as the IOC promotion of safeguarding and integrity for athletes and strategies to combat cyberbullying and protect athletes' mental health.

 

Paris 2024 Olympic boxing champion Lin Yu-Ting and her coach, Tseng Tzu-Chiang, shared their personal experiences of navigating the pressures of international competition and the importance of maintaining focus. They emphasized the experience of staying away from social media distractions and the crucial role of support from the CTOC and the public in achieving their goals.

 

Mr. Kevin Kuo-I Chen, OCA Executive Board member and Chair of the OCA Finance Committee, shared his valuable insights into the workings of international sports organizations. 

 

Young athletes Liang Ze-Jing, Yang Zong-Ye and Zhang Zhen-sheng also shared their experiences transitioning from athletes to different posts and event management roles, inspiring other athletes and sports enthusiasts to contribute to the development of international sports. 

 

The organisers invited researcher Ms. Ku Lun-Wei from the Institute of Information Science at Academia Sinica and Professor Li Cheng-Te from National Cheng Kung University to present their findings on the application of AI technology to combat cyberbullying. All participating athletes actively engaged in the discussions and gained valuable insights into safeguarding and integrity of athletes.
