Hong Kong, China, October 25, 2024: The Hong Kong, China delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games attended the stock market closing ceremony on Thursday, October 24 and struck the gong at the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) Connect Hall to commemorate the remarkable achievements made by Hong Kong athletes at Paris 2024.
To step up its support for promoting sports, HKEX Foundation will donate a lump sum of HK$1 million to the Sports Legacy Company Limited of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.
The officiating guests, SF&OC President Timothy Fok and HKEX Chairman Carlson Tong, were joined by Bonnie Y Chan, Chief Executive Officer, HKEX; Edgar Yang, Hon. Secretary General, SF&OC; Tony Choi, Chief Executive, Hong Kong Sports Institute; and Paris Olympians Tang Chun Man (badminton), Tse Ying Suet (badminton), Lee Ho Ching (table tennis) and Wong Chun Ting (table tennis) to strike the gong at the market closing ceremony.
A number of student members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service - a beneficiary organisation of the donation - also attended the ceremony and took the opportunity to exchange with the participating athletes.
Timothy Fok said: “The performance and spirit demonstrated by Hong Kong athletes at Paris 2024 have inspired many of us. Sport is much more than competitions. It allows us to better understand ourselves, strengthen our minds, build resilience, develop team spirit and cultivate proper values. The generous donation given by HKEX does not only affirm SF&OC’s commitment to promoting sports, but also shows its staunch support to sports development.”
The Sports Legacy Scheme was established in 2012 and is run by the Hong Kong Athletes Career and Education Department of SF&OC. It aims at providing opportunities for students, retired athletes and athletes who are planning to retire to pursue their passion for sports.
