Cascais, Portugal, October 23, 2024: The Association of National Olympic Committees is preparing to welcome 288 organisations from the Olympic Movement to the 27th ANOC General Assembly in Cascais, Portugal next week.

The three-day General Assembly will run from October 30 to November 1, with the ANOC Awards set for the evening of Wednesday, October 30.

In a message to the Olympic Movement, ANOC President Robin Mitchell and ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg say they are excited by the opportunity to once again gather the world’s National Olympic Committees together for this important meeting.

“The ANOC General Assembly is unique. It is the only non-sporting event that truly brings the whole Olympic Movement together. Leaders from more than 200 NOCs will be joined by representatives of the IOC, International Federations (IFs) and the Organising Committees of the Olympic Games (OCOGs) in a clear display of the strength and unity of our Olympic Family,” the ANOC message reads.

“Of course, our focus is the NOCs and ensuring that we are facilitating discussions on the most pressing issues and interests of our national stakeholders. However, as one of the key Olympic stakeholders, NOCs do not operate in isolation, and so it is important that we will have all Olympic stakeholders represented in Cascais, particularly at this significant time for the Olympic Movement.

“As ever, the ANOC General Assembly is an opportunity for collaboration. Whether it is through sharing of knowledge and best practice in the Assembly itself, or through networking and exchange on the sidelines of the event, having everyone together in person creates countless opportunities for building meaningful connections.”

The ANOC Awards will celebrate the best NOCs and athletes of the spectacular Olympic Games Paris 2024, with established and new categories on the programme. The awards include: Best Female and Best Male Athletes, Best Female and Best Male Teams, best mixed team and ANOC Award for Outstanding Sporting Career.

The third day of the General Assembly, Friday, November 1, will be devoted to three Special Theme Sessions, providing further opportunity for NOCs to develop collectively through knowledge exchange and the dissemination of best practice. The themes are:

*The Evolving Olympic Programme: The NOC Perspective

* Decoding Safeguarding: Effective Strategies for Safe Sport

*Olympic AI Agenda: The future of AI for NOCs
