Ramallah, Palestine, October 22, 2024: The President of the Palestine Olympic Committee Maj. Gen. Jibril Muhammad Rajoub, welcomed karate hero Maryam Amin Basharat at the POC headquarters in Ramallah last Sunday, October 20.
Maryam was accompanied by her father Amin Basharat, who is also her coach, and was warmly welcomed by the POC President Jibril Rajoub. Also present on the occasion was POC Secretary General Abed Al Majeed Hijjeh.
Maryam, 21, created history when she became the first Palestinian to win a gold medal in karate at an international event. She was crowned world champion in the Female 61+ kg category at the 2024 World Cadet, Junior and U21 Championships in Venice-Jesolo, Italy earlier this month.
