ASEAN sports community meets in Vietnam, discusses next SEA Games

Manila, Philippines, October 20, 2024: The Philippine Sports Commission reaffirmed its solidarity to the ASEAN community on utilizing sports as an instrument for regional integration during the 15th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Sports (SOMS-15) and Related Meetings from October 14-16 in Vinh Phuc, Vietnam.

 

The Philippine delegation was headed by Comm. Olivia ‘Bong’ Coo and Office of the Board Secretary’s Acting Head Anna Christine Abellana, who underscored the country’s commitment in maintaining sports as a driving force for youth enrichment, community-building and inclusivity.

The gathering also shared details about the preparations for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) and 13th ASEAN Para Games, next year, in Thailand.

 

Prior to the meeting, the country’s delegation participated in a fun run with other representatives of ASEAN member-states, symbolizing the strengthened cooperation of the region to other nations and international organizations.

 

SOMS-15 was hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Sports Authority of Vietnam.
