CTOC’s Peace through Sport Committee hosts Olympic Peace Triathlon

Taipei, October 17, 2024: The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, in conjunction with its Peace through Sport Committee, hosted the 2024 Olympic Peace Triathlon at National Taiwan Normal University on October 12, 2024.

The event, which embodied the spirit of "Integration by Sports", attracted a diverse group of participants, particularly athletes with disabilities, making it the highlight of the event.

More than 150 people took part, including 19 athletes with various disabilities such as autism, hearing impairment, diabetes, visual impairment (both total blindness and low vision) and physical disabilities (wheelchair users and amputees).

The organisers provided special assistance to these athletes to ensure they could compete safely and achieve the true meaning of “integration”.

Participants ranged in age from 6 to 65 and included local athletes as well as athletes from eight other countries and regions - United States, Indonesia, Hong Kong, France, Vietnam, Japan, Eswatini and Thailand.

This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting peace through sports, achieving equality, and demonstrating the global impact of Integration by Sports.

Lin Mei-Jun, Deputy Director of the Peace through Sport Committee, said this was the first triathlon event to be held with the concept of "Integration," and that it embodied the principles of "care, acceptance and action."

She also hoped that the public would pay more attention to promoting sports harmony and diversity, and to realizing sports equality.

To actively participate in a call to action, many well-known figures from schools and society took part. They included Mr. Yao-Ting Sung, Vice President of National Taiwan Normal University; Ms. Wang Shu-li, a famous weather anchor and a member of the CTOC Sport and Environment Committee; Ms. Su Li-wen, Olympic and Asian Games taekwondo athlete; and Peace through Sport Committee members Mr. Kang Zheng-nan and Mr. Liang Ze-Jing.
