Thimphu, Bhutan, October 17, 2024: The Bhutan Olympic Committee took a major step in enhancing sports in the country when it signed agreements with a group of athletes selected to participate in the Bhutan Elite Athlete Support Training (BEAST) programme.
A total of 14 athletes were picked for this initiative, launched in collaboration with the National Sports Federations. This programme will offer elite athletes financial support and training resources, empowering them to achieve their best and represent Bhutan with pride on the international stage.
Following approval from the General Assembly and the Executive Committee, the BOC named a selection committee of sports science experts and coaches which had no affiliations with any local federation to pick the BEAST athletes.
Athletes from five key sports federations were picked for the inaugural programme. The sports were athletics, archery, boxing, judo and shooting.
The BOC has set ambitious goals for Bhutan’s sporting future, and has initially targeted success at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The programme's long-term vision aligns with the broader objectives of increasing the country’s visibility in international sports and enhancing its competitiveness on the Asian stage.
