Tashkent, Uzbekistan, October 15, 2024: The Chair of the OCA Coordination Committee for the 2025 Tashkent Asian Youth Games, Mohammad Tayyab Ikram, said the AYG would be only a stepping stone for the development of sport in the city, country and region.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the first CC meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Tashkent on Tuesday morning, Mr. Tayyab said the OCA shared the vision of the President of Uzbekistan, His Excellency Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Sports Ministry and the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.
“We are very grateful to the State of Uzbekistan and also the President, His Excellency Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, for his vision in giving this great space for future generations through the Asian Youth Games,” Mr Tayyab said, referring to the 140-hectare Olympic City being built for the Asian Youth Games next September.
“We have had great feedback from different sources, including the Director General of the OCA, Captain Husain Al Musallam, who visited here recently and had a very positive impression of the Olympic City.”
The OCA CC Chair said the plan was to make the Olympic City a centre of excellence, long after the AYG is over, and that the legacy will continue through generations.
“The Asian Youth Games will be a stepping stone for the future, and we have every confidence in the organising committee and the leadership to deliver the perfect games,” he added.
The Sports Minister, Mr. Adkham Ikramov, welcomed the OCA CC members to Tashkent and said the Olympic City would be completed in January 2025 – eight months before the AYG, which will run from September 7-17, 2025 with 24 sports in 18 competition venues.
The Sports Minister said that President Mirziyoyev had issued the highest decree in order to make the Olympic City one of the best sports complexes in Central Asia and the world.
OCA Vice President Otabek Umarov said Tashkent was preparing to host one of the biggest sports events in Asia. The Olympic City foundation stone was laid on November 9, 2022 and all the construction work would be completed by January 2025.
