Dubai, United Arab Emirates, October 14, 2024: The United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee has approved the initiative to hold the Emirates Games in a bid to support efforts to identify young athletes capable of representing the country in international sporting events.
The Board of Directors of the UAE NOC, chaired by Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, NOC Vice President, met last Thursday, October 10 at the NOC Headquarters in Dubai where a set of resolutions were adopted and a number of important topics were reviewed and discussed.
Also present at the meeting were Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports and NOC Vice President, HE Faris Mohammed Al Mutawa, NOC Secretary General, and other board members.
The Board approved moves to hold the Emirates Games, a multi-sports event featuring at least seven sports, and open to all Emirati citizens, children of Emirati mothers, individuals born in the UAE and residents.
This move is aimed at boosting the National Sports Strategy 2031 and promoting the quality of life as well as creating a unique media identity for Emirati sports. It will also hope to inspire young Emiratis to participate in sports and unearth talent capable of representing the country at international level.
This initiative is an important step towards promoting the Olympic movement in the UAE.
The Board also approved the setting up of a committee on Arts, Sports and Environment by the NOC.
