Astana, Kazakhstan, October 7, 2024: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, Gennady Golovkin, met International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach at the Panam Sports General Assembly in Asuncion, Paraguay last week.
President Bach congratulated Golovkin on his recent appointment as Chairman of the Olympic Commission of World Boxing, and appreciated his contribution to the sport.
Both sides emphasised the importance of maintaining boxing in the Olympic programme, including the next Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
The World Boxing Congress, to be held in Colorado, United States, next month, will be an important platform for discussing strategies aimed at developing Olympic boxing, including improving judging and supporting national boxing federations.
At present, 48 countries have fully transitioned from the International Boxing Association (IBA) to World Boxing, with another 10 in the process of doing so.
