OCA to focus on safeguarding, PMC at Bangkok workshops in December

Kuwait City, Kuwait, September 27, 2024: The Olympic Council of Asia will continue its efforts to promote safeguarding in sport and to counter competition manipulation by organising a series of workshops in Bangkok in December 2024.

 

The safeguarding workshop is scheduled for Thursday, December 5 and the prevention of the manipulation of competition (PMC) workshop on Friday and Saturday, December 6-7. National Olympic Committees will be able to register one participant for the safeguarding workshop and two participants for the PMC workshop.

 

In a circular to Asia's 45 NOCs, OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam said: “The Olympic Council of Asia consistently prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of athletes across the Asian Olympic Movement. 

 

“Committed to fostering a safe and fair sporting environment, the OCA is dedicated to raising the awareness on important critical issues related to the Asian Olympic Movement, such as anti-doping, upholding Olympic values, athlete safeguarding and the Prevention of Competition Manipulation (PMC).

 

“As part of its commitment to 'Guarding the Asian Games,' the OCA, in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee, will be organizing a series of workshops later in 2024. 

 

“These workshops will focus on essential topics like Safeguarding Athletes and the Prevention of Competition Manipulation (PMC), aiming to equip our NOCs with the knowledge and tools to protect the integrity of sports.”

 

The OCA is inviting the following people to attend the workshops:

1- NOC Safeguarding Officer. If a designated Safeguarding Officer is not already in place, the NOCs are requested to nominate a suitable officer who could assume the role of Safeguarding moving forward.

2- NOC Single Point of Contact (SPOC) responsible for the Prevention of Manipulation of Competitions.

3- Representative from the Ministry of Interior or the competent person related to the topic of prevention of manipulation of competition.

 

Safeguarding Workshop

Arrival: Wednesday, December 4; departure, Friday, December 6.

NOCs are entitled to register only one participant which is the NOC Safeguarding SPOC (person appointed by the NOC as the Single Point of Contact in the Safeguarding field).

PMC Workshop

Arrival: Thursday, December 5; departure, Sunday, December 8.

NOCs can register their participants no later than Wednesday, October 30 at the following link:

NOCs can register two participants. They are requested to nominate the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) responsible for the Prevention of Manipulation of Competitions to attend the workshop. If a designated SPOC is not already in place, the NOCs are requested to nominate a suitable officer who could assume the role of SPOC moving forward.

Additionally, the NOCs are requested to extend an invitation to one official from their respective Representative from the Ministry of Interior or the competent person related to the topic of prevention of manipulation of competition to participate in the workshop that has relevance to the topic being covered in the workshop or has a direct role related to sports, youth affairs, or policy implementation. The official should be capable of contributing valuable insights and raising collaboration on the workshop's objectives.
