Manama, Bahrain, September 25, 2024: The President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, HH Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, praised the unprecedented achievements of Bahrain basketball which recently emerged as Gulf champions at national and under-15 level.
In a felicitation ceremony held this week, BOC President Sheikh Khalid commended the men’s national team for winning the Gulf Championship for the first time in history and the youth team for also achieving the same result in the under-15 category.
Sheikh Khalid, who is also the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the General Sports Authority, stressed the two achievements reflected the support the sports movement received under His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
“These successes enhance the position of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the regional sports map, and we are committed to providing all support to the national basketball teams to achieve more success,” Sheikh Khalid said.
The BOC President congratulated the players of the two teams on their distinguished performances and fighting spirit, expressing his pride and appreciation.
The men’s national team defeated Qatar 73-68 in the gold medal final to win a historic first Gulf Championship while the U-15 team beat Kuwait 70-58 to emerge as age group champions.
