Astana, Kazakhstan, September 23, 2024: Bektur Kiyatbay, Head of the Sports Department of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, has been picked by the International Olympic Committee to undergo the Executive Masters in Sports Management (MEMOS) training programme.
Kiyatbay is only the second Kazakh chosen by the IOC for the MEMOS programme. The first was Viktor Kim, in 2005, the former Secretary General of the Curling Association of Kazakhstan.
The completion of this course in Sports Management, organised in conjunction with Olympic Solidarity, will result in obtaining an Executive Masters degree.
Kiyatbay said: “I chose to do the topic of ‘Development of High-Performance Sport through the Modernisation of Sports Education and Science’ for my project. A total of 36 applicants representing four continents were accepted to the Spanish section of the Sports Management programme.”
The international sports management programme offers courses taught by university professors in multiple languages and certificates are awarded by partner universities: University of Ottawa (English), LUNEX University (French) and Universitat de Lleida (Spanish).
At the moment there are 800 alumni of MEMOS in 172 countries working as Presidents and Secretary Generals of National Olympic Committees, International Federations and continental Associations. Also 15 MEMOS graduates are presently on the IOC staff and others are on various international sporting bodies.
