Hanoi, Vietnam, March 17, 2020: Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has set up a national steering committee for the organisation of the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) and the 11th Southeast Asian Para Games (ASEAN Para Games 11) in 2021, reports Vietnamnet.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has been appointed head of the steering committee; its deputy heads include the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, and the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hanoi, Nguyen Duc Chung.
The steering committee is tasked with helping the Prime Minister to direct relevant ministries, sectors and localities to prepare for the SEA Games 31 and ASEAN Para Games 11.
It can make decisions on the scale, date and venues to hold the two Games, with Hanoi as the main site, as well as the establishment of an organising board for the two events with Minister Thien as its head.
The committee is responsible for instructing related ministries, sectors and localities and for guiding the organising board to hold the two events in accordance with the regulations of the Southeast Asian Games Federation and the ASEAN Para Sports Federation as well as Vietnamese law.
The steering committee will be based in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and will be responsible for making and approving a master plan on the preparation and organisation of the two Games.
The 30th SEA Games, contested by 11 National Olympic Committees, took place in the Philippines last November and December, after which the flag was handed over to Vietnam for the next edition in Hanoi next year. Cambodia will stage the SEA Games for the first time in 2023.
