Ramallah, Palestine, September 22, 2024: The President of the Palestine Olympic Committee, Maj. Gen. Jibril Rajoub, has called for a comprehensive national sports strategy aimed at developing sport and achieving success at the LA28 Olympic Games.
This came during a workshop held last week and attended by Presidents and representatives of sports federations and associations, as well as Bashir El-Masri, a member of the POC executive committee.
Rajoub stressed that sport was a key aspect to projecting the national identity of the Palestine people at the international level, and as such more emphasis should be placed on its development.
The POC President called for the drafting of a sports strategic plan following a widespread dialogue between the POC, sports associations and federations, the private sector, the Ministry of Education and Palestinian Universities.
He said the final target should be targeting the qualification of Palestine athletes for the LA28 Olympics.
It was agreed during the workshop that sports associations and federations come up with their own proposals and ideas for a national sports strategy and to collectively present it to the POC before the end of the year.
