Nagoya, Japan, September 20, 2024: The second OCA Coordination Committee meeting for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan in 2026 came to a conclusion on Friday afternoon at the Nagoya Hilton Hotel.
After two days of presentations, discussions and a venue tour, OCA CC Chair Timothy Fok described the event as a “very productive meeting” and added that the promotion of the 20th Asiad would begin in earnest at the two-year countdown ceremony to be held on Saturday morning.
OCA Deputy Director General Vinod Kumar Tiwari submitted a list of items to be addressed in the near future, based on the outcome of the presentations. These included a sports programme that looks ahead to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, a detailed accommodation plan, host broadcaster information and cyber security.
Mr. Satoshi Murate, Secretary General of organising committee AINAGOC, thanked the OCA CC members for their advice and comments and said he was “very encouraged” by the meeting.
“Staring from yesterday (Thursday), two years in advance of the Asian Games, we are now on a new track,” he said.
“For the Asian Games to be successful, we will continue to work together and we will respond to all the points raised from this meeting. We will also make sure the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will leave a strong legacy for the future.”
Some of the details from the second day of the meeting include:
*Opening Ceremony on Saturday, September 19, 2026
*Closing Ceremony on Sunday, October 4, 2026
*Venue: Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium (capacity 35,000)
*Torch Relay: Maximum 15 days, scheduled for early September 2026
*Target Area; Aichi Prefecture local governments; local governments in hosting cities outside of Aichi Prefecture.
*Flame Lighting Ceremony: Nagoya Castle is the leading candidate.
*Cultural Programme: In cooperation with OCA Culture Committee and One Asia brand: Host city programme and AINAGOC-authorised programme
*Medical Services: Aichi Prefecture has 5,994 hospitals and clinics, 53,237 hospital beds and has an average ambulance arrival time of 8.4 minutes
*Anti-Doping: AINAGOC is working with OCA/International Testing Authority (ITA) and the Japanese Anti-Doping Agency (JADA). The WADA-accredited lab in Tokyo will test the samples.
*OCA HQ Hotel: Nagoya Hilton (370 rooms, from September 16 to October 6, 2026) and two more hotels nearby for OCA family. OCA guests – 1,500.
*Promotions: Members of the AINAGOC Athletes’ Committee are visiting schools to deliver a special, Asian Games-themed class to children. The programme will run from October 2024 to February 2025.
