Colombo, Sri Lanka, September 19, 2024: The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka has announced the selection of the members of its sports community for three prestigious courses for IOC Diplomas and Certificates offered through Sportsoracle.
Dr. Rukmal Karunanayake, sports medical officer at the Institute of Sports Medicine and team physician for the national women’s cricket team, has been selected to undertake the IOC Diploma in Mental Health in Elite Sports. This is an intensive one-year course aimed to enhance expertise in mental health strategies tailored for elite athletes.
Dr. Hashan Amarathunga, team sport nutrition physician for the Sri Lanka men’s cricket team and the Sri Lanka Army women’s hockey team, has been selected to pursue the IOC Diploma in Drugs in Sports. This course aims to deepen knowledge on anti-doping regulations and drug use in sport.
Two NOC staff, Ms. Kaushalya Danthanarayana and Ms. Hiruni Munasinghe, have been selected to undergo the IOC Certificate for Safeguarding Officer in Sport. Kaushalya is the NOC Deputy Manager Olympic Solidarity Relations and Hiruni is a Senior Executive in International Relations, and both play crucial roles in supporting athletes and officials.
“These appointments reflect Sri Lanka’s unwavering commitment to advancing sports medicine, athlete welfare and the integrity of sport at both national and international levels,” the NOC said in a statement.
