Doha, Qatar, September 16, 2024: The Qatar Foundation launched a Creating Pathways programme on Saturday, September 14, aimed at developing sporting talent among girls. The primary focus will be track and field.

Winner of the women’s marathon at the Paris Olympics, Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands was named as ambassador of the programme. She gave an inspirational talk at the launch, shedding light on her journey as an athlete.

“I am proud to become the Track and Field ambassador for the Creating Pathways programme at Qatar Foundation. I hope to inspire and support women and girls to start running and develop their ambitions in sports,” Hassan stated.

Hassan received praise for her subtle protest against France’s hijab policy during the Olympic medal presentation in Paris. The Dutch athlete wore a maroon hijab while accepting her gold medal, a gesture seen as a critique on France’s ban on hijabs for female athletes at the games.

Hassan also participated in a running event at Education City Stadium featuring participants of all ages.
