Thimphu, Bhutan, September 9, 2024: The Bhutan Olympic Committee has welcomed the election of its President HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck as Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia for South Asia for the period of 2024-2028.
The election took place during the 44th OCA General Assembly in New Delhi on Sunday, September 8.
“As OCA Vice President for South Asia, HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck will play a crucial role in promoting Olympic values and enhancing sports development across the region,” the BOC stated on its Facebook page.
“His leadership is anticipated to bring renewed energy, focus and commitment to the Olympic Council of Asia’s initiatives and goals.”
Prince Jigyel was the sole candidate for the position, and secured overwhelming support with 42 votes in favour, one vote against and two abstentions.
“The decisive result reflects the strong confidence of the General Assembly in Prince Jigyel’s ability to advance sports in Asia, particularly in South Asia,” the BOC said.
“The BOC extends its heartfelt congratulations to HRH on his election and looks forward to his valuable contributions to the OCA’s mission of fostering Olympism and sports development across Asia.”
The BOC also congratulated Raja Randhir Singh on his election as OCA President. “His deep-rooted passion for sports and dedication to the Olympic movement has been evident throughout his career, and we are confident that, under his leadership, the OCA will continue to thrive and further promote the values of excellence, friendship and respect in the Asian sports community.”
