New Delhi, India, September 5, 2024: The Olympic Council of Asia held a press conference on Thursday, September 5 for local media to provide details of the upcoming 44th OCA General Assembly.
The OCA Acting President, Raja Randhir Singh, was joined by the Deputy Director General, Vinod Kumar Tiwari, and the President of the Indian Olympic Association, PT Usha.
The trio shared some insights into the General Assembly, which will be held on Sunday, September 8.
As well as the election for OCA President, with Raja Randhir the sole candidate, and elections for the OCA Vice Presidents of the five zones - East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia and West Asia - there will also be a final report on the successful Hangzhou Asian Games held last year and an update on the 20th Asian Games to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan in 2026.
Following a recommendation from the OCA Executive Board, the General Assembly is set to adopt yoga as an official sport - a move that highlights Asia’s cultural influence.
Vinod Tiwari thanked the IOA and the Sports Authority of India for hosting the General Assembly in New Delhi, a city with strong ties to OCA.
