Olympism Camp in Hong Kong focuses on 15th National Games

Hong Kong, China, September 5. 2024: Organised by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, the three-day Olympism Camp 2024 has come to an end. 

 

Through a variety of activities and seminars, the 90 secondary school students and athletes from Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macao participating in the camp deepened their understanding of the Olympic spirit and the 15th National Games to be held in Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong next year.

 

The camp was held at the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp from August 27-29, 2024. 

 

In addition to wushu, skateboarding and fencing sports experience, this year the camp integrated urban exploration activities into the programme for the first time, allowing participants to learn problem-solving and social skills together. The activities also aimed to enhance participants’ resilience and foster teamwork spirits. 

 

Mr Kenneth Fok, Vice President of SF&OC and Chairperson of the Hong Kong Olympic Academy, along with Mr Paul Cheng, Deputy Head of the National Games Coordination Office, attended the camp. They shared with the participants insights of the history of the National Games, the collaboration between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao as well as the latest progress of work in Hong Kong in preparation for the Games. This enabled the participants to gain a better understanding of the National Games and the collaborative efforts between cities.

 

Mr Kennth Fok said: ‘‘I hope that every participant will learn, through the camp, the Olympic spirit and experience how the power of sport promotes teamwork and friendship. 

 

“As the 15th National Games is approaching next year, by sharing the latest information of the Games with the participants, I hope young people will participate proactively in and support this national mega sports event together!’’

 

Table Tennis star Minnie Soo Wai Yam, who won a bronze in the women’s team event at the Tokyo Olympic Games, also joined the camp. She shared with the participants her Olympic experience and how she overcame challenges and inspired young people to pursue their dreams.
