Male, Maldives, August 26, 2024: Hosts Maldives and India secured their first-ever quota in surfing for the Asian Games, clinching spots at the Asian Surfing Championships 2024 which concluded in Thulusdhoo on Sunday, August 25.

Maldives won a quota in the men’s event while both the Indian surfing teams, men’s and women’s, will compete at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The quotas were based on the ranking points earned by the surfers at the Asian Surfing Championships which was a qualifying event for the 2026 Asian Games.

“It’s truly heartening to witness this historic day when Indian surfing has secured quotas for the upcoming Asian Games,” said Surfing Federation of India President Arun Vasu. “This achievement is a testament to the hard work and determination of our surfers, our coaches and the federation.”

“I am confident that we will see our surfers competing in the Olympics in the future,” he added.

The Maldives Olympic Committee also congratulated Team Maldives for securing a first-time berth in surfing at the Asian Games.

The surfing competition at the 20th Asian Games will take place at Long Beach, Tahara, Aichi prefecture.
