Hong Kong, China delegation attend welcome home reception

Hong Kong, China, August 22, 2024: The Hong Kong, China delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games made historic achievements by bringing home two gold and two bronze medals. 

 

The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China organized a welcome home reception on Wednesday, August 21 to congratulate athletes and their teams for their achievements at Paris 2024 and commend them for bringing glory to Hong Kong.

 

Hong Kong wrote history again after the Tokyo Olympics by winning two gold and two bronze medals at Paris 2024. It is the first time the city has won two gold medals in one edition of the Olympic Games, and claimed medals in two consecutive Games. The gold medals both came in fencing and the bronze medals in swimming.

 

Mr John Lee, the Chief Executive, presented Certificates of Commendation to the athletes and their teams as a token of appreciation for making Hong Kong proud with their perseverance and dedication.

 

Delivering his speech at the reception, SF&OC President Mr Timothy Fok highlighted the tremendous efforts of the athletes. He said: “Medal counts are never metrics of success. A number of our athletes achieved Hong Kong’s best ever Olympic results in their respective disciplines, with some of them ranking top among Asian athletes. 

 

“It is encouraging to see them reach the world’s top level. The coaching and support teams behind our athletes also deserve great credit for the phenomenal performances. They have been providing unwavering support to our athletes. I am truly grateful for their contributions.”

 

Mr Fok called on the public to continue to root for the athletes. SF&OC is planning to organize various activities, including athlete sharing sessions, to engage the public in supporting the athletes.
