The King of Bahrain praises Olympic heroes for bringing honour and pride to the country

Manama, Bahrain, August 20, 2024: The King of Bahrain, His Majesty Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, received the country’s Olympic heroes at Al-Sakhir Palace and presented them with national medals on Sunday, August 19.

 

The President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, presented the athletes to His Majesty the King in the presence of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince.

 

Bahrain won an unprecedented four medals at the Paris Olympics – two gold, a silver and a bronze – to finish as the leading Arab nation and 33rd out of the 204 countries and regions in the medal standings.

 

His Majesty the King expressed his thanks to the athletes – gold medallists Winfred Yavi, in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, and Akhmed Tazhudinov in men’s wrestling freestyle 97kg, silver medallist Salwa Eid Naser in the women’s 400m athletics and bronze medallist Gor Minasyan in the men’s +102kg in weightlifting – and congratulated them for raising the Kingdom’s flag high during the Olympics.

 

His Majesty the King said the achievements of the athletes had put Bahrain at the top of the Arab world, and was a source of pride and honour. The King also praised the resolute spirit and determination of the athletes and stated they would be a source of inspiration for younger generations.

 

The athletes in turn expressed their deep thanks, appreciation and gratitude to the King.
