Philippines President ‘BBM’ welcomes Olympic heroes to presidential palace

Manila, Philippines, August 14, 2024: President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. along with the first family gave a homecoming ceremony to the Paris 2024 Olympians led by double gold medalist Carlos Yulo and bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas at the Malacañan Palace.

 

President “BBM” expressed his highest honour to the athletes' perseverance in the Olympic Games and handed out additional cash incentives, Medal of Merit and Presidential Citations.

 

"I thought what we should do is really recognize all the athletes - number one, all the athletes. That is an extremely difficult achievement to have manage," PBBM said.

 

The Chief Executive also committed to enhance the overall status of Philippine sports, following the country’s best finish in the Olympic history.

 

Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Richard Bachmann, Comm. Walter Francis Torres and Executive Director Paulo Francisco Tatad, together with Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham Tolentino, and officials from other government entities and private firms also attended the event in honor of the Olympians.

 

The Philippines won two gold medals at the Olympics for the first time, from artistic gymnast Carlos Edriel “Caloy” Yulo in men’s floor exercise and men’s vault, and two women's boxing bronze to make the country the best-performing nation in south-east Asia.
