New Delhi, India, August 14, 2024: Vinesh Phogat, and India, will have to continue to wait as the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s verdict on the wrestler’s Olympic silver medal plea was postponed until Friday, August 16.

Having heard both sides of the argument after Phogat appealed against her disqualification from the women’s 50kg freestyle final, CAS was expected to deliver its verdict on August 11. However, CAS extended the deadline until August 13 and has now pushed it back again.

Phogat, who was disqualified from the Paris Olympics final for exceeding the weight limit by 100gms, announced her retirement from wrestling following the incident.

The 29-year-old Phogat had reached the gold medal match by defeating Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman 5-0 in the semi-finals. She was set to face Sarah Ann Hildebrandt of the United States for the gold but was disqualified for the weight limit breach.

Earlier in the tournament, Phogat stunned the wrestling world by beating Tokyo 2020 champion Yui Susaki of Japan in the round of 16.
