Paris, France, August 9, 2024: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the performance and character of national sporting hero Neeraj Chopra.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion finished second in the men’s javelin competition at the Stade de France on Thursday evening to win the silver medal behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem. The javelin giant threw an Olympic record of 92.97 metres to win his country’s first Olympic medal of any colour since Barcelona 1992.

Prime Minister Modi showed his pride and support of Chopra in a social media post.

“Neeraj Chopra is excellence personified! Time and again he’s shown his brilliance. India is elated that he comes back with yet another Olympic success.

“Congratulations to him on winning the Silver. He will continue to motivate countless upcoming athletes to pursue their dreams and make our nation proud.”
