Wrestler Amin Mirzazadeh gives Iran its first medal at Paris Olympics

Paris, France, August 6, 2024: Greco-Roman wrestler Amin Mirzazadeh won Iran its first medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics clinching the bronze medal in the men’s 130kg category.

 

Mirzazadeh defeated Azerbaijan’s Sabah Shariati 4-0 in the bronze medal play-off to give the Islamic Republic of Iran its first silverware at the Paris Games.

 

Iran can add to this bronze medal with another Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler, Mohammad Hadi Saravi, going for gold in the 97kg class on Wednesday, August 7.

 

Saravi, who won bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Games, defeated Egypt’s Mohamed Gabr 8-0 to reach the gold medal final where he will come up against Artur Aleksanyan from Armenia.
