Paris, France, August 6, 2024: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, Gennady Golovkin, has congratulated Nariman Kurbanov for winning the country’s first-ever Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics.

Kurbanov won a silver medal at Paris 2024 in the men’s pommel horse with a score of 15.433 points. Ireland’s Reese McLenaghan won the gold medal with 15.533 while Stephen Nedoroscik of the US took the bronze with 15.300.

“My congratulations go to Nariman Kurbanov on winning the silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games. For the first time in independent Kazakhstan’s history, our compatriot stood on the Olympic podium for gymnastics. I am convinced that this first silver medal is going to be the start of many other wins for you in the future,” Golovkin said.

Almaty-born Kurbanov, a bronze medallist in pommel horse at the Hangzhou Asian Games, was making his Olympic debut.

“I dedicate this medal to all our people. This is a long-anticipated award for our country. When I was 18, I knew I could reach the Olympics and compete for medals and I set a goal,” said the 26-year-old Kurbanov.

Kurbanov will receive US$150,000 for his silver medal from the Kazakhstan government. Athletes who win gold and bronze will receive US$250,000 and US$75,000 respectively.
