Malaysia wins first medal of Paris 2024

Paris, France, August 4, 2024: Malaysia joined the Paris 2024 Olympic Games medals table on Sunday with badminton bronze.

 

In the play-off for third place in men’s doubles, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik beat Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 2-1 in 74 minutes at La Chapelle Arena. 

 

The unseeded Malaysians lost the first game 21-16 but won the next two 22-20, 21-19. The second- seeded Danes had four match points in the second game, while Malaysia finished the contest on their first match point in the third game.

 

In men’s singles, Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia has a bronze medal to play for on Monday, August 5 after he lost to Thailand’s 2023 world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-14, 21-15 in the semi-finals on Sunday.
