Paris, France, August 4, 2024: Chinese Taipei celebrated a “Super Saturday” on August 3 by winning their first medals of Paris 2024.

Sports shooter Lee Meng Yuan won the bronze medal in the men’s skeet, and boxer Wu Shih Yi picked up another bronze in the women’s 60kg category.

Lee finished third in the men’s skeet with 45 hits, behind the gold and silver medallists from the United States – Lee’s idol Vincent Hancock (58 hits) and Conner Lynn Prince (57).

Lee, making his Olympic debut at 29, became the first athlete representing Chinese Taipei to win an Olympic medal in shooting.

The eight-member shooting team is the largest single event team among CTOC’s Olympic delegation of 60 athletes in Paris, but the seven other members failed to advance in their respective disciplines before Lee reached the finals on Saturday.

Back in Taipei, both President Lai Ching-te and Premier Cho Jung-tai sent their congratulations to Lee via social media for winning an historic first ever medal in the sport.

In the women’s boxing 60kg semi-final, Wu lost 5-0 to China’s Yang Wenlu, who is guaranteed gold or silver. All five judges scored all three rounds 10-9 in favour of Yang.
