Paris, France, July 31, 2024: Defending Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra arrived in Paris on Tuesday, July 30, and joined his fellow teammates at the Athletes Village in the French capital.
Neeraj, who won an historic Olympic gold medal for India at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, took to social media to share the news of his arrival in Paris.
“Namaskar, Paris! Excited to finally reach the Olympic Games village,” Neeraj wrote on his X post.
The 26-year-old Neeraj, the first Indian and Asian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in javelin, also wrote an inspiring message for the Indian athletes on the Wall of Positivity.
“This is the time for the performance,” he wrote on a sticky note, pasted on the wall.
Neeraj will compete in the men’s javelin throw Group A qualification round at Stade de France on August 6.
In Tokyo, he became the first Indian track and field athlete to win an individual Olympic gold medal. He was the second Indian athlete to win an individual Olympic gold after shooter Abhinav Bindra in the 10m air rifle competition at Beijing 2008.
