Paris, France, July 29, 2024: Japan won their first medal in Olympic equestrian in 92 years when the eventing team took bronze at the Chateaux de Versailles on Monday.

Defending champions Great Britain won the three-leg dressage-cross country-jumping combo with 91.30 penalty points. France finished second with 103.60 points and Japan came in third for bronze with 115.80 points.

It was Japan’s first Olympic medal in team eventing and their first in equestrian since 1932 when Takeichi Nishi won gold in the show jumping event on his horse Uranus.

In dressage, Japan accumulated 87.40 penalty points; in cross country 6.40 and, on Monday, in jumping just 2.0 points. However, they incurred a 20-point replacement penalty.

Japan’s four-strong squad was Toshiyuki Tanaka (Jefferson), Kazuma Tomoto (Vinci de la Vigne), Yoshiaki Oiwa (MGH Grafton Street) and Ryuzo Kitajima (Cekatinka).
