Fifty-two boxers qualify for Tokyo 2020, 11 more to come

Amman, Jordan, March 9, 2020: The Asia-Oceania Olympic boxing qualifiers in Amman, Jordan will produce a total of 63 qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

This figure includes 41 boxers in eight men’s weight categories and 22 boxers in five women’s weight categories.

After seven days of action from March 3-9, 52 boxers have now booked their tickets to Tokyo 2020 by reaching the semi-finals.

The remaining 11 spots will be filled via play-offs before the tournament closes on Wednesday, March 11.

The last chance for Tokyo qualification will come at the Final World Qualifying Tournament in Paris from May 13-20. 

There will be a total of 286 boxers at Tokyo 2020, with 186 men in eight categories and 100 women in five weights. 

The qualifying process is being run by the IOC-appointed Boxing Task Force as the world governing body AIBA is suspended by the IOC.
