Asian NOCs celebrate Paris 2024 opening ceremony

Paris, France, July 27, 2024: Asia’s National Olympic Committees showed their pride and excitement at taking part in the unique Olympic Games opening ceremony on Friday evening with a series of posts and videos on social media.

Despite the heavy rain, the athletes enjoyed the occasion as they were transported on a flotilla of 85 boats along 6km of the river Seine – the first Olympic Games opening ceremony to be held outside a stadium.

Malaysia’s Deputy Chef de Mission and squash legend Nicol David said: “Words can’t describe this feeling being part of the parade at my first Olympic Games for Malaysia. Thank you, Paris!”

The Philippine Olympic Committee posted: “Then there was light! The flames have been ignited, marking the start of an unforgettable journey at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Let the games begin!”

Sri Lanka NOC commented on their striking opening ceremony costume design, produced by LOVI Ceylon.

“Team Sri Lanka's Opening Ceremony attire for the Paris 2024 designed by LOVI Ceylon is ranked THREE by Sports Illustrated,” Sri Lanka NOC said.

Saturday brings the first day of medal competition in Paris as the action runs through to August 11.
